It is said that, in the beginning, there was nothing. And then, life emerged—born from the union of Shiva and Shakthi, the two divine forces of creation and destruction. In an instant, the universe came to be, and just as quickly, it ends, only to begin again. This story, or some version of it, exists in every religion, every civilization. We have countless narratives about how the universe came to be, and yet, the mystery continues to unfold.
What we do know, however, is that life is cyclical. Creation and destruction, beginnings and endings—these cycles are part of the rhythm of existence. And just as the universe moves in cycles, so do our lives. We continuously create and recreate our world, shaped by our thoughts, actions, and experiences. This constant renewal is both a gift and a challenge.
As the year draws to a close, it’s a perfect time to pause and reflect on what has passed, and prepare for what is to come. Reflection is a powerful practice. It helps us develop a deeper awareness of ourselves—our patterns, our habits, our relationships. This awareness is essential for growth, because it’s only when we truly see ourselves that we can break the old, toxic cycles that no longer serve us and replace them with new, energizing ones.
When we reflect, we allow our mind to become more centered, and more peaceful. We become conscious of the choices we make—whether to hold onto frustration, resentment, and fear, or to embrace kindness, patience, and love. These qualities don’t come naturally or effortlessly. They are deliberate choices we make in our attitude and our habits, and they require constant nurturing.
One of the most important lessons we can learn is that putting ourselves in toxic relationships or situations is often a bad habit—a pattern we unconsciously follow. We allow ourselves to be drained by negativity, sometimes out of obligation or a fear of change. But it’s a pattern that, once we become aware of, we can break.
Breaking free from toxicity requires strength. And that strength comes from moments of stillness and reflection. It’s in these pauses that we gather our energy, reconnect with our inner selves, and prepare for the next cycle. Just as the universe rests between the phases of creation and destruction, we too must rest.
So as this year comes to an end, give yourself permission to pause. Take a moment to reflect on what has been, the lessons you’ve learned, the patterns you want to break, and the new ones you want to create. Use this time to rest and gather your strength.
Because when the next cycle begins—and it always does—you’ll be ready for it. Ready to create, to grow, and to live with more awareness, kindness, and love. This is the true rhythm of life: a constant balance of reflection and recreation, rest and renewal.
Rest now. Reflect deeply. And prepare for the next chapter with a heart full of strength and clarity.
